Rama is recognised for his role in establishing Mauritius as an International Financial Centre when he was Minister of Finance from 1991 to 1995. He was also Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance between 2005 and 2010.
He is highly regarded for introducing major reforms that helped to diversify the Mauritius’ economy and to enhance its resilience to external shocks. Dr Sithanen advised the Government of Rwanda on taxes, competitiveness and financial services issues between 2013 and 2015.
He is the Chairperson of the Rwanda Development Board since 2013. He read Economics at the London School of Economics and holds a BSc with first class honours and an MSc with distinction. He also has a PhD is Political Science from Brunel University, UK.
