In view of its position as a leading International Financial Centre in the region and a well advanced ICT sector, with over 19,000 multilingual professionals, Mauritius is extremely well placed to support the global ambitions of Fintech companies. Mauritius leads Africa with its optimal internet connectivity, and is already providing services such as digital insurance and mobile banking.
In terms of fostering innovation, Mauritius is now able to offer a Regulatory Sandbox Licence, introduced in 2016 and administered by the Board of Investment (BOI). The new licence will provide opportunities for entrepreneurs and innovative companies to develop new fintech and products and services, before offering them to the wider global market.
Furthermore, the Board of Investment is in discussions with various parties regarding the establishment of a Blockchain Centre of Excellence in Mauritius, which would enhance the credentials of Mauritius as a country able to offer a thriving, dynamic and innovative environment.
